How we talk to
ourselves ~ the words we use, how we speak inwardly and the depth of
belief in what we actually say ~ has a potent and often harmful effect
on our health, wellness and well-being.
Take charge right now!
This “voice†is an ‘inner critic’ ~ a being, of sorts, that has taken
shape over the years from words said to us as children and young adults,
feedback from individuals with questionable social skills, and other
message sources (such as magazine covers and billboards) that encourage
us to think we are not enough in who we are right now.
While
this is a complex subject ~ here is a simple and doable list of ways to
banish your inner critic. Start here ~ and step into the adventure. You
will get further acquainted with yourself and enhance your well-being at
the same time.
1. Take out a paper and pen.
2. Make a
list of all of the things you dislike about yourself, no matter how big
or how small (this can be ongoing).
3. Set it aside for a
moment.
4. Now, in the same way, make a list of all the things
you love or appreciate about yourself. Jot down anything that comes to
mind. Dig deep; keep it ongoing until it is as long or longer than the
first list. List little and big things.
5. Once you feel your
list is complete for now (feel free to add things later), make it into
something that you will put on your wall or somewhere readily visible.
Look at it several times a day.
6. When the time is right for
you, banish the first list in a ceremonial way. Perhaps burn it – or
speak it out loud. Then create a mantra that is “life affirmingâ€. For
example: “I am limitless possibility†~ or ~ “Any feeling is okay – I am
at choice as to how I will behave.â€
7. Create your life
affirming words on paper (colorful!) and place it near a mirror, on your
desk, or in the kitchen area. Look at your words several times a day. Be
patient.
